What does VOCARE mean?
Vocare, (Vo-car-e), is a Latin based word meaning "to call".

What should I expect on the weekend?
You can expect a weekend that is full of acceptance and love. You can also expect a weekend that can be emotionally taxing while spiritually uplifting. You should expect to leave the weekend connected to Christ and an active Christian community in San Diego, and also to many other Vocare communities across the globe.

How is VOCARE different from Happening and New Beginnings?
Many people come to Vocare having already experienced another retreat weekend such as New Beginnings, Happening or Search. While many of the themes may seem familiar, VOCARE is different.
Vocare focuses on discerning and accepting God's call in our lives as adults. The development of a Christian community and the personal growth of the participants are keys to the success of a VOCARE weekend. The VOCARE weekends are considerably smaller than Happening or New Beginnings in order to facilitate a tighten bond between the participants and more careful evaluation of our calling in the world.

Who should attend Vocare?
VOCARE has something to offer to everyone. However, not everyone will find VOCARE the enriching and enlivening experience that it can be. If you are working on a relationship with God or are actively inquiring into the meaning of Christianity, then you are probably a good candidate for VOCARE.
Only those people who are willing be become a part of this community and who are open to being called by God on this weekend should attend.
Anyone who feels called by Christ or feels that this is the right time and place for them to attend the weekend as a part of their spiritual journey should attend.
If you are not sure if VOCARE sounds right for you, we urge you to talk to someone about it. If you have someone you feel comfortable talking to who has been through VOCARE or is member of the clergy familiar with VOCARE, we urge you to talk to them. If not, call us. We will put you in touch with either a member of the VOCARE team or one of the many Spiritual Advisors to VOCARE. We do not want the weekend to take you by surprise. Contact Vocare for more information.

Why should I attend VOCARE?
If you are ready to explore Who we are, Who Christ is, and How we respond, then you should attend VOCARE.
You should attend VOCARE to find Christ in your life, make life-long Christian friends, join a young and spirited Christian community in San Diego and world-wide, and have fun.
You should attend VOCARE because it promises to be one of the most valuable and spiritually intense weekends of your life.

What is the format of the weekend?
The weekend is centered around a series of talks. The entire weekend is planned and put together by past VOCARE participants with the assistance of Spiritual Advisors and a Steering Committee.
The talks touch on the issues of identity, Christianity, response to Christ, a spiritual journey, reconciliation, community, vocation, empowerment, and the future.
The weekend is also full of wonderful opportunities to get to know the other candidates, sing, pray, and participate in several forms of liturgical worship.
